Dunelm sales surge in downturn
Homewares retailer Dunelm yesterday reported a surge in recent sales growth and said it planned to create up to 1,000 jobs this financial year, boosting its shares 16 per cent to a new high. Dunelm, which sells products like curtains, bedding, blinds, rugs and lighting, said sales at stores open at least a year jumped 16.1 per cent in the 10 weeks to 12 September, compared with a 0.5 per cent fall in the year ended 4 July.
Chief executive Will Adderley said growth had been picking up for several months, helped by Dunelm's focus on low prices, the demise of rivals like Roseby's and Woolworths, favourable weather and signs of improving consumer confidence.
