Owen tips rivals City for the top
HIS injury-time winner may have taken them down a peg or two in Sunday’s thrilling derby, but Manchester United striker Michael Owen expects rivals City to keep upsetting the Premier League’s elite.
City announced their intention to break the Big Four’s stranglehold on the Champions League places with a £120m summer spending spree on some of the division’s most sought-after talent.
Mark Hughes’s men then backed up their lofty ambitions with a 100 per cent start to the season that included an emphatic 4-2 triumph over top-four rivals Arsenal.
Owen and United checked their progress at Old Trafford, albeit via the latest of late goals, but the former Newcastle and Liverpool player has tipped City to recover and mount a serious assault on the top of the table.
“Manchester City have been quite impressive since the start of the season. You would think they will be up at the right end of the table,” said Owen. “Everyone is guessing how far up the table that is. Whether it is a European place or a Champions League place I am not sure. But I definitely think they will be up there.”
