Ministry of Justice to quit London
DARLING will shift a staggering 15,000 civil servants out of the capital in a massive cost cutting drive.
The news will further stoke the fires burning at the heart of the government over pay caps for the public sector workers, set at just one per cent – effectively a pay cut as inflation is double that.
Darling hopes to save £41m by shifting the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) out of London. In a massive purge, 14 of the 18 MoJ buildings will close their doors, with more than half of the employees being forced to relocate. It is not yet clear where the department will end up.
The big move follows earlier relocations by departments including the Health and Safety Executive, which left the capital for Liverpool and the Office for National Statistics, which is now based in Newport.
