Strong start for Domino’s
BRITAIN’S biggest pizza delivery chain Domino’s has reported a strong start to 2010 despite bad weather in the early part of the year.
The company, which operates the British and Irish franchises of the global home delivery brand, said sales at its 553 stores open for more than a year were up 10.5 per cent in the 13 weeks to 28 March.
Online sales continued to grow strongly, rising by 52 per cent to £25.3m during the quarter.
“We are delighted with our like-for-like sales performance, which comes despite the snow in the early part of the year forcing many of our stores to temporarily close,” chief executive Chris Moore said.
“We face some incredibly tough comparatives in the second half of the year, but we have the people, the product, and the plans to continue to deliver excellent results in the coming months,” he added.
Domino’s said it had opened eight new stores since the beginning of the year, giving it a total of 616, and is on track to achieve its target of 55 new openings this year.
