Harrington on a mission to regain his Euro status
PADRAIG HARRINGTON hasn’t given up hope of regaining his status as European Tour No1 despite spending much of the season Stateside.
The three-time Major winner currently lies 21st on the Race to Dubai money-list, over €1m behind leader Martin Kaymer.
Harrington is looking to claim a third victory in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland this weekend in the knowledge that a win will half the deficit and increase his chances of catching the German.
“I’ve got five events left to give myself a chance,” the 2006 Order of Merit winner said. “I probably need to win two and a few other things to go right, but that would be the goal at the moment.
“This is one of my favourite tournaments of the year. Not often do we get to play links golf and I think the set-up really suits me well.”
Kaymer misses the event as he continues to recover from surgery on broken toes suffered in a go-kart accident.
Second-placed Paul Casey is also sidelined with a rib injury, although Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Ross Fisher will also be looking to take advantage and keep Harrington out of the equation.
