Clichy: Gunners firing all over the pitch
ARSENAL defender Gael Clichy says the Gunners have compensated for the loss of £24m striker Emmanuel Adebayor by plundering goals from unlikely sources.
Centre-back Thomas Vermaelen leads their scoring charts with four strikes, while his partner William Gallas is one of five players who have netted three times. And Clichy believes it is this goal-threat throughout the side that has carried them to nine wins from 11 games.
“William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen have eight goals altogether, the midfielders are scoring, as are the strikers,” said the left-back.
“Robin van Persie is getting on the scoresheet more often now. Of course we lost a great player in Adebayor but we have got a lot of other players like Andrey Arshavin, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas as well. I think we have got plenty of quality to score goals from anywhere, which can only be good.”
Adebayor, meanwhile, will discover today whether his appeal against a Football Association charge of improper conduct has been successful. The Manchester City star landed himself in hot water by running the length of the field to celebrate in front of Gunners fans after scoring against his old team last month.
