Tigers tamed as Fulham pair find their feet
FULHAM (2) vs HULL CITY (0)
FULHAM boss Roy Hodgson hailed his strike pair after the Cottagers returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory over Hull City.
Hodgson’s front men have hardly hit the ground running so far this season, but a welcome strike from Bobby Zamora and a first of the season for Diomansy Kamara helped tame a rather powerpuff Tigers outfit at Craven Cottage.
Midfielder Danny Murphy is the club’s top scorer so far this season with four goals, but with three of those coming from the penalty spot, Hodgson believes the work of his front runners is often overshadowed.
“If you’ve got an expert penalty taker who happens to be a midfield player sometimes forwards manufacture goals but have them taken away from them – but I’m pleased with their performance,” Hodgson said.
“We were unlucky at home to Arsenal and away to West Ham – the performances were better than the points tally – but tonight we tied the two knots together.”
Zamora gave Fulham the lead two minutes before the end of an otherwise disappointing opening half when Damien Duff’s volley was parried by Hull keeper Boaz Myhill and the ex-West Ham striker nodded home the rebound.
Ex-Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard came on for his first game in nine months, but not even he could prevent the hosts scoring a second on 64 minutes – Zamora turning provider this time in slotting the ball across the box for Kamara to smash home.
The only sour note for Hodgson was losing Murphy to a knee injury in the second half. The captain will undergo tests later today.
