Palace’s relegation fate goes right to the wire
CRYSTAL PALACE (1) v/s WEST BROM (1)
CRYSTAL PALACE will face a final day relegation showdown with Sheffield Wednesday after missing out on the chance of clinching Championship survival with a win over West Brom last night.
Paul Hart’s side, who were docked 10 points for going into administration in January, failed to secure the three points needed to relegate the Owls after already-promoted West Brom hit back from going a goal behind at Selhurst Park.
It means the Eagles must now avoid defeat in the season decider with Wednesday at Hillsborough on Sunday to secure their second-tier status for next season.
Palace got off to the best possible start when West Brom’s Steven Reid sliced a Darren Ambrose free-kick into his own net on 17 minutes.
But the Baggies were back level four minutes later when Gabriel Tamas headed home Chris Brunt’s free-kick from the left.
Both sides went close to a winner but Palace’s misery was compounded when Neil Danns was sent off late on for head-butting Graeme Dorrans.
