Most of my big race hopes have bitten the dust, but Elusive Pimpernel still has a great chance in the 2000 Guineas tomorrow. The field may split in two and if it does, then Richard Hannon may hold the key in Canford Cliffs.
Supposedly, he will be ‘buried’ to get the mile, but surely the sensible course of action would be to lead a group towards the stands rail. If he stays, he will win that group and potentially the race. But rumours are rife that favourite St Nicholas Abbey is in fine fettle and if so he may start odds-on.
Pollenator was going to be my tip for the 1000 Guineas, but the price tumbled earlier in the week, so I’m no longer interested. Tomorrow at Newmarket, I think the three-year-old handicap (4.15) is between Aetos, Racy and HORSERADISH with preference for the last named.
