Brown holds Kirkcaldy
LABOUR HOLD
Swing 3.3%
LABOUR leader Gordon Brown held his Kirkcaldy seat last night. He polled 3.3 per cent of the vote more than in 2005, at the expense of the Scottish Nationalist Party.
He claimed he would do his “duty to the country” as it emerges from the recession. He said he would form a “strong, principled government, able to sustain the economic recovery”.
In a clear nod to the Lib Dems he said he would “reform the electoral system, over which there is a growing consensus needs to be changed.”
Brown appeared to be heading for the opposition benches last night unless he is able to strike a deal with Nick Clegg’s Lib Dems, who are desperate to push proportional representation through parliament.
