Tube walkouts called off
A RUN of crippling Tube strikes due to start next Monday have been called off following secret talks between Transport for London boss Mike Brown and union officials.
He told RMT Union leader Bob Crow that a driver at the centre of the dispute would be re-instated in order to avoid “significant disruption for London”.
The RMT has withdrawn the threat of two week of walkouts, in what would have been the longest ever series of strikes on the Underground.
Eammon Lynch, a Bakerloo line driver sacked for allegedly breaching safety rules, will now be given a different job on the Underground.
London mayor Boris Johnson said: “I welcome the RMT’s decision to call off their industrial action and their recognition that flexing union muscle is completely unjustified and unnecessary.”
