Choi holds firm to clinch golf’s richest prize
KOREA’S KJ Choi claimed golf’s unofficial fifth Major, the Players Championship, after beating David Toms in a play-off at Sawgrass.
The veteran American birdied the 72nd hole to draw level with Choi on 13 under par to take the tournament into overtime. Toms played the better approach to the signature 17th island hole but three putted to allow Choi to take the victory and the $1.7m prize for the winner.
