Huhne welcomes police
EMBATTLED government minister Chris Huhne has denied allegations that he asked someone else to take his penalty points for a speeding offence, as pressure on his cabinet position intensifies.
The claims that Huhne lied about speeding offences are now set to be the focus of a police investigation.
“All I want to say is that these allegations are simply incorrect,” he said yesterday.
“They’ve been made before and they’ve been shown to be untrue, and I very much welcome the referral to the police as it will draw a line under the matter.”
He added: “I think the police can get to the bottom of this.”
Downing Street earlier said that Prime Minister David Cameron had given the energy secretary his “full confidence”. Huhne’s political opponents are calling for him to stand down from his government post.
