the INSIDER
IF YOU’RE a gambler then the bet or should I say ‘lay’ of the weekend is PACO BOY (10%). I have a feeling that tomorrow in the Group One Lockinge Stakes at 3.05pm the value lies with the field. Okay he has the best form, he beat most of these at Sandown, but at Newbury tomorrow I don’t think he will win! He was beaten in this race 12 months ago and there are a number of runners who should be able to put it up to him tomorrow.
Today is second chance Friday and the horses to follow are INLER (2.20pm) and POLLENATOR (2.55pm) both running at Newbury. The former was disappointing in the Guineas, but I doubt that John Best would be running him if he didn’t think he had a major chance. He was reportedly like lightning on the gallops prior to Newmarket and this drop back to six furlongs should suit.
The 1000 Guineas was a farce of a race and Richard Hannon can gain quick compensation in the Swettenham Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes. Pollenator has always looked like she will appreciate the step up in trip and I expect her to book her place in the Oaks this afternoon.
