Former Tory MP Jack gets the Topps job
FORMER Tory MP Michael Jack has taken over as chairman of Topps Tiles after the company said yesterday Barry Bester had stood down with immediate effect.
Jack, who represented Fylde between 1987 and 2010, joined the Topps board in 1999 and was its senior non-executive director.
In addition to his role at Topps Tiles, the UK’s largest tile and wood flooring specialist, he chairs the Office of Tax Simplification in the Treasury, is a Privy Councillor and an adviser to HSBC.
He has previously worked in senior roles at major organisations such consumer goods firm Proctor & Gamble and retailer Marks & Spencer.
Jack, 64, said: “Topps Tiles is a remarkable and robust company. For me to have been chosen by the board to succeed Barry Bester as its chairman is a very great honour.
“I know we have a strong management team and great staff and I am looking forward to working with them all so that, together, we can continue the development of the range of products and services which our customers want.”
Bester has spent 26 years in the Topps business, and is a former chief executive.
He said he wanted to spend more time on private business interests.
