Ageing team is a problem, says Hiddink
GUUS HIDDINK admits the new Chelsea manager will have to freshen up an ageing squad after signing off at Stamford Bridge with a comfortable victory over Blackburn.
The Dutchman was given a rousing reception by the Blues faithful in his last home match of his temporary managerial reign.
Goals in either half from Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka ensured the Blues capped the occasion with a win, but Hiddink admitted his successor – largely believed to be Carlo Ancelotti – will have a problem or two to address on his arrival. “To be realistic in the upcoming years we have players who are ageing, but can perform,” Hiddink said. “It is up to the new management to solve. It’s maybe humble advice to bring in even more depth, but people in the club know that.”
Anelka’s 18th goal of the season brings him level with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Golden Boot charts.
