BILL OF THE WEEK
NO EXPENSE was spared when three Russian businessmen, accompanied by one of the group’s nephew, dined at Cheneston’s in Kensington’s Milestone Hotel. So when it came to choosing the wine to accompany the three-course blow-out, the only thing to do was to choose a vintage from the year the nephew was born, which turned out to be a bottle of 1995 Petrus at £2,500. One £1,000 bottle of Chateau La Mission Bordeaux, eight glasses of cognac, 10 measures of whisky, two glasses of Calvados and three Cohiba Lanceros cigars later – it seems the uncle banned his 16-year-old nephew from lighting up – the party rolled out into the Friday night £4,784 lighter.
