Indulge yourself with these Wimbledon treats
WIMBLEDON Tennis is about to kick off and with it the bliss of fresh cut grass courts, the oohs and aahs of the crowds, afternoons spent glued to the television. Tickets for the tournament, as usual, are gold dust, but worry if you haven’t secured one. There’s plenty of ways to celebrate the event in style. Fans can watch the tennis live with free outdoor screenings at Cardinal Place, Victoria, Bankside, on the Southbank, and New Street Square, Holborn (http://greatbritishsummer11.com). BP is also showing the event from its BP Summer Screen at Canary Wharf. For screenings with service, The Thomas Cubitt (www.cubitthouse.co.uk) is showing the tennis live at its bar and The Paramount (www.paramount.uk.net) rooftop bar at Tottenham Court road is showing the event on widescreen televisions with a full compliment of drinks. The Coq d’Argent (www.coqdargent.co.uk), meanwhile, is transforming its outdoor terrace into an alfresco screening room.
Should the tennis bring out a spot of the genteel in you, there’s a plethora of themed afternoon teas on offer. The Landmark London Hotel (www.landmarklondon.co.uk) is serving Wimbledon tea with Pimm’s Jelly, fresh strawberries and cream and green tea tennis ball cupcakes. Dukes London Hotel (www.dukeshotel.com) simultaneously, is serving traditional tea with champers in a special Wimbledon suite.
Cocktail fans are also in for a treat. The Parlour in Canary Wharf
(www.theparlourbar.co.uk), and The Folly (www.thefollybar.co.uk) in the City is introducing six Wimbledon themed tipples, including a “royal” Pimm’s topped with sparkling wine and adult “Robinson’s Squash” to get in to the mood. Enjoy
