Punters lose £3m on Saint Nick
RACING: Bookmakers estimate that punters may have lost up to £3m in early wagers after long-time favourite St Nicholas Abbey pulled out of the Epsom Derby with a “slight muscle injury”.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt failed to impress jockey Johnny Murtagh in a workout on Friday where it was found he was suffering from a tear in his hind quarter.
Saint Nick was market leader for seven months for Saturday’s race, only to be ousted as favourite on Friday by stablemate Jan Vermeer.
