McDowell proves lord of Manor
GOLF: Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell lifted his Ryder Cup hopes by winning the Wales Open at Celtic Manor.
McDowell finished on 15 under par, three shots clear of home favourite Rhys Davies, to triumph on the course that will host the 2010 clash between Europe and the US. Davies caught the eye on the final day with a course-record 62, but McDowell’s 63 proved enough to land his first title since 2008.
Lope de Vega wins French Derby
RACING: Champion jockey Ryan Moore was denied a Classic clean sweep as Maxime Guyon rode 12-1 shot Lope de Vega to victory in the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.
Moore bagged the Oaks on Friday and the Derby on Saturday, but had to settle for seventh place aboard Ice Blue in humid conditions at the French Derby.
Planteur took second while Frankie Dettori snatched third on Pain Perdu.
