SABMiller seals deal with Belgian brewer
SABMiller has signed a distribution agreement with Belgian Van Steenberge Brewery to distribute the Sint Stefanus brand outside Belgium.
Under the terms of the agreement, the beer will be distributed outside Belgium under the St Stefanus brand.
The name comes from the monastery of Sint Stefanus, to which the brewery is linked and which still houses an order of Augustinian monks.
SABMiller Europe’s managing director Alan Clark said: “As the European market for speciality beers grows around 20 per cent, we will initially introduce the St Stefanus beer on the European market in countries such as France, the UK, Italy and Spain.
“Europeans drink less beer, but indulge themselves more with special, pricier beers, which explains why this is an attractive segment for us”.
