Lagarde takes swipe at DSK
CHRISTINE Lagarde began her tenure as IMF chief with a swipe at her predecessor, saying her leadership will be “more inclusive”.
She used her first speech as new IMF chief to say she will push ahead with reforms to give fast-growing emerging markets more influence at the global lender.
The former French finance minister said: “The world is going to continue to change. We have these tectonic plates that are moving at the moment, and that needs to be reflected in the composition of governance and employment at the Fund.”
Among her first appointments is expected to be Min Zhu, a Chinese national who was a special adviser to former IMF boss Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Lagarde said that among the most pressing issues she faces is dealing with the fallout of the European debt crisis engulfing bailed-out Ireland, Portugal and Greece.
