Centrica raises gas and electricity prices
Centrica has said that it will raise its gas and electricity prices.
The British has owner will increase gas prices by 18 per cent and electricity by 16 per cent.
British Gas customers to see their bills fly up 25 per cent or £258, the average household bill for a dual British Gas customer will now be £1,288 from £1,096 that it was last year.
The company is placing the blame on the 30% rise in the wholesale cost of gas taking place from last winter, the change in prices is predicted to affect roughly 9m households across the UK.
“Many people are already having to cut back on essentials because of the rising cost of living, and with energy bills rising further, this could be a cold winter for man.” Richard Lloyd, of consumer’ association Which?
“Rising wholesale costs is an issue facing all energy suppliers,” said Phil Bentley, the managing director British Gas.
