Strauss set for India test
ENGLAND Test captain Andrew Strauss believes his side must be prepared for a step up in class when they face India at Lord’s next week.
Strauss will return to the international fold after skipping the one-day series over Sri Lanka having retired from the 50 over game following the World Cup earlier this year.
Star-studded India represent the prospect of even sterner opposition in both formats, but Strauss believes England will be up to the challenge.
“We’ve got some good momentum in this summer so far, two series wins,” he said. “The next two series are going to be a step up from that, in lots of ways, and a bigger challenge – but one we’re more than prepared to take on.”
Strauss, who struggled in the Test series against Sri Lanka, will look to regain some form when he switches counties and turns out for Somerset in their match against the tourists.
The Middlesex batsman added: “I’d either be sitting around not playing any cricket or I’ve got a chance of getting a couple of innings and having a look at the Indian bowlers and spending some valuable time out there in the middle.”
