Jol set to be named Fulham boss this week
FORMER Tottenham boss Martin Jol looks poised to complete a shock return to the Premier League by taking charge at Fulham.
The Cottagers spent last night in talks with Ajax thrashing out a compensation package for the Dutchman, who was sacked by Spurs in 2007.
Fulham depart for a pre-season trip to Sweden today without a manager but hope to appoint Jol in time for Thursday’s friendly against Halmstad.
The 54-year-old has surprised Ajax by contemplating leaving the iconic club for relatively unglamorous Fulham.
Jol is thought to have been concerned that Ajax are set to sell their star players, forward Luis Suarez and full-back Gregory van der Wiel.
Mohamed al Fayed, meanwhile, is said to have promised Jol he will have significant transfer funds at his disposal as the Fulham chairman looks to build on the success of Roy Hodgson’s tenure.
Hodgson led Fulham to the Europa League final last season, beating Juventus, Wolfsburg and Hamburg along the way, before quitting to take charge of Liverpool.
