Crossrail chief executive quits in surprise move
THE chief executive of the £16bn Crossrail project has resigned, just months after the transport scheme’s future was guaranteed in the comprehensive spending review.
Rob Holden is to step down this year, the group said yesterday.
Crossrail, one of Europe’s biggest construction projects, will connect Maidenhead in Berkshire with Shenfield in Essex, passing through the West End and Canary Wharf, with a link to Heathrow Airport.
Holden said the company needed a chief executive who can commit to lead it right through the opening in 2018. “I leave Crossrail confident that, with its funding firmly in place, a robust delivery plan, clear governance and a strong delivery team, Crossrail is now well set to move forward to a successful launch,” Holden said in a statement.
Crossrail said Holden would be leaving to “explore new opportunities.”
