Limassol Marina is a slice of nautical heaven
EVER wanted to take your superyacht through Cyprus en route to Africa or the Middle East but been discouraged because there was nowhere to berth it? Soon that will no longer be a problem, thanks to the completion of the new £350m Limassol Marina, a luxury collection of waterside villas, residences and moorings that can accommodate yachts of up to 100 metres.
“We have a unique location between Africa, Asia and the Middle East,” says Nick Pampakis, Marketing Manager at Limassol Marina. “It was a bit strange not to have a marina for superyachts. This is an attempt to put Cyprus on the world superyachts map.”
Indeed: should they choose to buy a villa too (the Marina expects a fair amount of buyers to go for a berth and a residence), sailors can moor their vessels, hop out into their gardens, out their back doors and straight into a car.
Whether they take up a residence or not, Limassol Marina will be a lovely place to step ashore. The waterfront is developing into a hive of restaurants, cafes, bars and high-end shops. The Marina has been built in a style that blends with the city’s maritime history, historic centre and Medieval castle – all of which are worth exploring. The Four Seasons, Le Meridien and other world-class hotels are a mere ten-minute drive away if you want a spa treatment or gourmet dinner. For those in search of more cultural excursions, Limassol is near a host of important ancient monuments and landmarks, including the spectacular amphitheatre of Kourion, the temple of Apollo and the ancient city of Amathus.
Although the Marina and its residences have been designed luxuriously, it’s not elitist. Of the 650 berths, only 70 will be used for superyachts, reckons Pampakas. The majority of boats – sailing and motor – will be between eight and 30 metres. Ground floor apartments open out to their own gardens and residences have access to a swimming pool and many have sea views. Prices start at £400,000 (far less than the cost of a superyacht).
Cyprus is considered a stable place to invest in property, with its increasingly sunny climate (340 says of sunshine each year) and its slow and careful development as a second home and tourist destination. A relatively stable economy is also a plus. For more information and photos, go to limassolmarina.com/about-limassol-marina.
