SIR PHILIP WATTS
Sir Philip Watts, the former chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell, was forced to quit after he overstated the group’s oil reserves by 20 per cent, knocking more than £15bn off Shell’s market value. Watts was forced to quit in 2004.
SIR FRED GOODWIN
Dubbed the “world’s worst banker”, former Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) boss Sir Fred Goodwin was forced to stand down after being blamed for the near collapse of the bank. Goodwin left in 2008.
GERALD RATNER
Former jewellery boss Gerald Ratner was forced to leave the Ratner Group after a 1991 slip up in which he referred to his products as “total crap”, wiping an estimated £500m from the company’s value. He now runs Geraldonline.
