BlackBerry outage nightmare not over as lawsuits hit RIM
Consumers in the US and Canada have sued Research in Motion (RIM) for a days-long service outage on its BlackBerry devices that rippled across the world earlier this month.
The system-wide failure of the service left tens of millions of frustrated BlackBerry users on five continents without email, instant messaging and browsing.
The firm apologised to millions of BlackBerry customers for the four-day outage that tarnished its image and set back its drive to catch up with Apple and other smartphone rivals.
But the gesture, along with an offer of free premium app downloads for those affected, has not been enough for furious customers who have filed lawsuits accusing RIM of breach of contract, negligence and unjust enrichment.
