Rooney: Wilshere’s got what it takes
ENGLAND striker Wayne Rooney is confident Jack Wilshere will have a long and distinguished international career after the Arsenal starlet impressed on his first senior start against Denmark on Wednesday.
Wilshere looked composed in front of the back four before he was taken off at half-time. “I thought Jack Wilshere did really well,” said Rooney. “He is really composed on the ball and really good to play with. You can see the potential he has got.”
Wilshere aside, England’s other standout performers were the Aston Villa duo, Ashley Young and Darren Bent, who were both on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win.
Young replaced Rooney at the break and played behind the main striker, as he has done for his club this season, and the Manchester United talisman was suitably impressed by his contribution.
“With Ashley, he has been playing behind the main forward for Villa this season. You could see he has benefited from that with the way he did against Denmark. He got his goal and he’s always a threat in there.
“The manager is trying to give players a chance and they are starting to take those chances.”
