Boris extends mayor lead
MAYOR of London Boris Johnson is on course to win re-election next year, according to a poll out yesterday.
Around 48 per cent of Londoners expect to give their first preference vote to Johnson, compared with 40 per cent to Labour’s Ken Livingstone and just six per cent for Lib Dem candidate Brian Paddick.
And for second preferences, Paddick gets 36 per cent, Livingstone 19 per cent and Johnson 15 per cent – enough for the incumbent Boris to maintain his lead, according to research by ComRes.
Despite growing support for the Labour party nationally, Johnson has extended his lead in London since a similar poll in March.
The rise hints that Johnson’s performance during the riots has improved his standing.
Boris and Ken supporters are both equally likely to turn up to vote, according to the ComRes survey, with around two-thirds of the capital saying they will definitely be at the ballot boxes in May.
