Ladies’ investment club plans an evening of advice and inspiration
ASPIRING female entrepreneurs take note.
Tomorrow night the No.1 Ladies’ Investment Club will hold its fifth annual networking event, focusing on the “Power of the Purse” – womens’ relationship with money and how to maximise investment success.
Gina Miller established the Investment Club in 2009 to offer access to financial education for aspiring female investors, along with opportunities to attend networking events with speeches from industry experts.
Along with a chance to pick the brain of the evening’s guest speaker, sailing heroine Tracy Edwards MBE, Miller hopes tomorrow’s event will offer a forum to discuss how women can take control of their money and benefit from investment opportunities in the current climate.
The wife of hedge fund stalwart Alan Miller, Gina is a self-confessed entrepreneur who encouraged her husband to launch wealth management company SCM Private in 2009.
Through the No.1 Ladies’ Investment Club she hopes “to raise awareness of the importance of women taking control of their futures” while helping them to “network with likeminded women”.
As if extra incentive were needed, the event is being held at LK Bennett’s flagship store in Knightsbridge, with attendants receiving a 10 per cent discount on the shoe brand’s latest collection, with an additional 10 per cent donation to Miller Philanthropy, which supports charities in the UK and abroad.
■ And so farewell to the Blue Trail, and its Guildhall Yard mascot Sir Wenlock, whose auction ends today. Even The Capitalist could not resist playing tourist in London, and joined the fun tracking Wenlocks and Mandevilles on the walk that led from City Hall to the Tower of London. No doubt Sir – whose price tag was last night a lordly £3,000 – will be missed, along with his colourful Blue Trail cohorts Monument Wenlock, Cathedral Wenlock, Ravens Wenlock and Beefeater Mandeville – who are among the final mascots to go under the auctioneer’s hammer. But it’s not too late to grab yourself a slice of London’s 2012 legacy and help London’s most deprived children via the Mayor’s Fund for London. The auction has already raised over £550,000.
