Mendis stars as hosts romp
SRI LANKA’s Ajantha Mendis took a record six wickets for just eight runs as the hosts began their World Twenty20 campaign with an 82-run thrashing of Zimbabwe.
Jeevan Mendis and Kumar Sangakkara’s 94-run stand helped Sri Lanka reach 182-4 before half a dozen of Zimbabwe’s batsmen were blitzed by off-spinner Ajantha Mendis in just four overs.
The figures were the best for any bowler in the history of Twenty20 internationals. Leg-spinner Jeevan weighed in with three wickets as Zimbabwe were dismissed for 100 with 15 balls left. England continue their preparations with a warm-up match against Pakistan today.
