PSG say Beckham deal is dead
FORMER England captain David Beckham looks set to extend his stay with MLS side LA Galaxy after Paris Saint Germain chiefs yesterday admitted defeat in their attempts to lure him back to Europe.
The 36-year-old had emerged as a potential marquee signing for the French club, recently acquired by the Qatar Investment Authority, after his contract with the Galaxy expired following last season’s MLS championship success.
PSG sporting director Leonardo confirmed the deal to bring Beckham (right), who is determined to prove his fitness ahead of July’s Olympic football tournament, to the French capital is dead with the player now expected to sign a new contract that will keep him California.
“It’s over,” said Leonardo, who helped bring former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti to the club last week. “It’s a shame. But the welfare of his family, and the wish not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily.”
