Suarez and Evra called to appear at racism enquiry
MPS have convened a Parliamentary committee to examine the recent spate of racially contentious incidents in the English game and plan to summon Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Manchester United defender Patrice Evra to give testimony.
The Culture, Media and Sport select committee will gather on 6 March to examine whether racism is indeed on the rise – or if controversies such as those that earned Suarez an eight-match ban and threatens the career of England and Chelsea captain John Terry are isolated.
Terry is due in court next month after being charged by police with a racially aggravated public order offence relating to an exchange with QPR defender Anton Ferdinand in October. Terry has strongly denied the allegation. Suarez was banned after being found guilty of racially abusing Evra during a match.
