Fury focused on Klitschkos, not on Price
FIGHT promoter Mick Hennessy has revealed that a domestic match up between Tyson Fury and David Price is not a priority because he believes Fury to be close to a world title shot at one of the Klitschko brothers.
Though conceding that there remains a chance that a fight between the two could happen next year, Hennessy, speaking after James DeGale’s successful European super middleweight title defence against Hadillah Mohoumadi, dismissed the potential selection of Matt Skelton as Price’s next opponent and said that Fury, via a fight with either Vitali or Wladimir Klitschko, could by next summer be a world champion.
“As far as we’re concerned, the main thing for Tyson before fighting a Klitschko is to become a household name worldwide,” Hennessy said on the same evening that Price edged Audley Harrison towards a likely retirement by knocking him out in just 82 seconds. “I think Tyson could be world champion by next summer. It could be Vitali or Wladimir. What’s bigger? Tyson v Price or Tyson v one of the Klitschkos?
“It would probably be better for it to happen for a world title. Skelton? A shocking opponent really.”
Hennessy also said that DeGale’s next fight is likely to be on December 8 in Monte Carlo, while Harrison, whose nose was broken by Price, revealed he expects to retire from the sport. “It’s likely my boxing journey is at an end,” he said.
