Dettori departs from Gololphin
HORSE racing marked another end of an era yesterday, as jockey Frankie Dettori announced his departure from the Godolphin stable after 18 years of service.
Dettori will continue to race on a freelance basis.
“Godolphin has been a major part of everything I have achieved in racing,” the Italian said.
“I feel the time has come for a change. My position in the stable has changed a little bit and I need a new challenge.”
Dettori, who rode nine English Classic winners with Godolphin, was wished well by the team.
“We have had a tremendous association with Frankie over many years,” said its racing boss Simon Crisford. “He has achieved so much.”
