There’s no excuse for corruption, says Broad
STUART BROAD insists there is no excuse for any cricketer getting caught up in corruption these days given the increase in intelligence in the game.
The seamer says the England team are in regular liaison with the England and Wales Cricket Board and International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption education programme.
His comments come on the back of Pakistan trio Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer receiving suspensions from the ICC amid spot-fixing allegations.
Broad explained: “As England players, ECB are brilliant towards us, and the ICC. We’re very educated on this sort of anti-corruption stuff.
“There’s an anti-corruption guy round the changing rooms all the time. I don’t think any player could ever have an excuse – ‘I didn’t know’, or ‘We weren’t educated’.
“We get hand-outs, handbooks. The amount of books I’ve got from the ICC at home, full of information – there’s certainly no excuse as players.
“As soon as you come into the England team, the ICC get hold of you; you’re put through this video, DVD, anti-corruption – everything you’re not allowed to do, everything you are allowed to do.
“I don’t know what other boards do. But that’s the responsibility they have to take to
make sure every player is educated.”
Pakistan go in search of a much-needed lift in Cardiff this afternoon as they bid to save the two-match Twenty20 series.
Paul Collingwood’s England cruised to a five-wicket win in the first match on Sunday and are expected to be unchanged today as they look to add to their 3-1 Test series victory.
