RBC Capital Markets
The corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada has promoted Harry Samuel (pictured) from global co-head of fixed income and currencies and global head of treasury services to chief executive officer, Europe. David Thomas, global head of technology and operations, has been promoted to chief operating officer, Europe. Samuel and Thomas replace John Burbidge, chief executive of RBC Capital Markets, who retired on 31 July.
RBS
The Royal Bank of Scotland has hired Ozgur Altuntas as head of sales and financial institutions in Turkey and deputy head of global banking and markets in Turkey, based in Istanbul. Altuntas joins from Morgan Stanley in London, where he has worked since 2005; prior to that, he spent two years at Credit Suisse, also in London.
Parallel Investment Management
Tim Lambert, formerly of Ducalian Group, has been hired as head of investment property by Parallel Investment Management. Lambert will run the division from the real estate asset manager’s London office.
Vane Minerals
David Newton, who most recently worked at XCAP Securities, has been appointed as chief executive of the mining group. His move is effective from 1 September, when Steven Van Nort will step down as chief executive while remaining as a board member.
Allen & Overy
The law firm has expanded its Middle East practice by hiring Samer Eido as a partner in its Qatar office to strengthen its Qatari law service. Eido joins from Simmons & Simmons, where he led the firm’s financial markets practice in the Middle East.
HSBC Private Bank
Simon Gordon has been hired as a director in the ultra high net worth team at HSBC Private Bank. Gordon joins from Credit Suisse Private Bank, where he led the team responsible for the entrepreneurs initiative and private companies initiative. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 2006, he held roles at Abbey National Asset Managers, SLC Asset Management, Hill Samuel Asset Management and Williams de Broe.
Jefferies
The investment bank has appointed Thomas Fetzer as a managing director in the global industrials group, based in Frankfurt. Fetzer joins from UBS, where he was a managing director in the global industrials group.
