Creditsafe launches identity theft alert service as company fraud increases
CREDITSAFE has teamed up with the Metropolitan Police to develop an online service, which notifies companies of possible identity fraud.
Businesses fearing identity fraud can now receive free email alerts every time changes are made to their information on Companies House.
The group has developed the fraud alert service after several months of consultation with the Economic Crime Unit at the Met Police and after witnessing a continuing growth in company fraud.
Figures obtained from Companies House show that between 50 and 100 cases of identity fraud are committed each month, while the Federation of Small Businesses has said that last year 12,000 of its members reported instances of company identity fraud.
A change in address or listed directors on Companies House are some of indicators that identity fraud is being committed.
David Knowles, business development director at Creditsafe, said: “We take the rise in identity fraud seriously. Busy company directors don’t tend to keep an eye on the details held on themselves or their companies.”
