Stephen Sondheim, the man who wrote Send in the Clowns and the creative force behind musicals including A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and – as lyricist – West Side Story, is 80 this year. Passion, one of his more recent works, is a tale of love, obsession and power set in 19th century Italy, where a soldier’s life is shattered by the competing passions of his faraway lover and a local temptress. Jools Holland (right) is leading celebrations at the Park Lane Hotel on 30 September to raise money for autism. SPEED DRAWING IN BROADGATE
Later this month, the Real Broadgate art show will be a chance for City folk to pick up some high-quality pieces of figurative art.
