LONDON’S MAYORS IN THE FRAME FOR STYLE
WHO ARE the City’s most stylish cyclists? Boris Johnson and Michael Bear, says fashion photographer Horst A Friedrichs, who has immortalised the Mayor of London and the Lord Mayor in a Square Mile photography exhibition of London cyclists on their two-wheeled vehicle of choice.
Johnson and Bear are joined in the City Cycle Style exhibition, which opens on 28 September at The Royal Exchange, by 40 models including partners from law firm Pitmans, fashion designer Sir Paul Smith and shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey.
“The bicycle is now seen as a reflection of your own personality and fashion choices rather than a simple way to get around,” said Friedrichs.
So Johnson, naturally, is photographed on a Boris Bike – the original prototype of which, engraved with the Mayor’s signature, will be auctioned off by alderman Michael Bear at the private launch of the exhibition on 27 September.
CORRY CARRIES ON
ALL CHANGE for Gordon Brown’s former economic adviser Dan Corry, who is moving on from his role as a director at FTI Consulting to become chief executive of the consultancy and think tank New Philanthropy Capital.
It’s a small world – NPC was set up by then Goldman Sachs partners Peter Wheeler and Gavyn Davies, the husband of Sue Nye, Corry’s fellow former Brown aide and the gatekeeper the former prime minister famously blamed for his “bigoted” gaffe.
FRONT OF HOUSE
IF YOU think the receptionists at Landmark’s new headquarters in the Heron Tower look familiar, it may be because the company has taken to recruiting actresses as its front-of-house staff.
The receptionists (below), who are found through ads in The Stage magazine, have been in the West End shows We Will Rock You and Dirty Dancing; in TV shows including Casualty and Holby City; and in films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. One receptionist is also a professional singer and can be heard on the soundtracks for The Da Vinci Code, Mamma Mia and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
