Ennis leads track stars’ showcase
CYCLISTS were not the only Team GB hopefuls to boost their London 2012 medal chances at the weekend, with domestic athletes shining at the Aviva Grand Prix in Birmingham on Saturday.
Heptathlete Jessica Ennis posted new personal bests in the 60m hurdles and long jump, beating a strong field in the former with the fastest time anywhere this year.
Pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale continued her superb form by beating 2009 world champion Anna Rogowska to first place with a jump of 4.70m.
Long-jumpers Shara Procter, who smashed the British record twice in half an hour, and JJ Jegede, who broke the 8m mark for the first time, also triumphed. Distance runner Mo Farah had to settle for second behind Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge over two miles, but British 400m runners Shana Cox and Nigel Levine won.
