Number of legal positions falls but engineers still in demand
NEW jobs in the UK’s legal sector dropped markedly in July, with new vacancies down 18 per cent year-on-year.
Just 8,070 new legal jobs were advertised in July, down from 9,606 in the same month in 2010, according to figures from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (Apsco) monthly trends report.
Engineering and manufacturing remained the strongest hiring sector for the fourth month in a row, with vacancies up 21 per cent year-on-year.
Property and construction vacancies grew by 14 per cent, while new IT and telecoms job were up six per cent.
Total job vacancies declined slightly in the year to July, down one per cent on 2010, having shown impressive growth in June when vacancies in engineering increased by 50 per cent.
