Cameron: coalition won’t give up on its austerity programme
PRIME Minister David Cameron will today warn that there is “no going back” on Britain’s austerity plan despite the financial obstacles strewn across Europe.
Cameron will use a joint speech with Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to underline the coalition’s focus on a “long and hard” deficit reduction programme that will help protect Britain from “the financial storm” battering the Eurozone.
“I don’t hide from the scale of that challenge, or from the message sent by voters in many places in last week’s elections,” he is expected to say during a speech at an Essex factory.
Lib Dem leader Clegg will add that the coalition’s spending plans are underpinned by a “moral responsibility” to cut the country’s debts.
The rare joint speech comes ahead of tomorrow’s Queen’s Speech, in which the coalition will set out its legislative plans for the next year.
