Firms cool over coalition’s plans for UK aviation
BUSINESSES were yesterday unenthusiastic about government proposals on the future of aviation in the UK, which reiterated the coalition’s opposition to any airport expansion whatsoever.
The document offered several possibilities for improving aviation in the UK, such as making better use of the country’s existing airport capacity.
But David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, said the document “fails to set out a clear plan as to how we can build our aviation capacity in the months and years ahead”.
He added: “The vital role of aviation in boosting the economy should not be underestimated. Britain’s status as an international business hub is under threat while our European competitors are leading the way.”
The Tory-Liberal Dem coalition is adamant that it will not give the green light to any new runways or airports.
