McIlroy holds off Tiger to become new world No1
NORTHERN IRELAND’S Rory McIlroy kept a revitalised Tiger Woods at bay to win the Honda Classic last night and become world No1 for the first time in his career.
McIlroy finished two shots clear of Woods on 12-under-par after the American had put together and astonishing final round of 62 which was just one shy of the course record in Florida.
“It was tough today especially seeing Tiger make a charge. I knew par golf would probably be good enough and that’s what I was trying to do,” said the 22-year-old McIlroy.
