Just three weeks to go to get your entries in for the City’s best awards
THERE are just three weeks left to get those entries in for City A.M.’s second awards ceremony where we will be celebrating the best of London’s financial business community and its most successful individuals and firms.
Anybody present at last year’s inaugural ceremony will bear testimony to the fact that the City A.M. awards have quickly established themselves as a highlight in the London financial community’s calendar.
We are proud to recognise that the City is more than merely the sum of its parts. The awards ceremony will once again be an extraordinary evening for an extraordinary community.
Allister Heath, City A.M.’s editor said: “Our awards ceremony promises to be an exceptional and exciting evening. While others are still bashing capitalism, we will be identifying and celebrating those individuals and companies who are reinventing the City and in doing so are helping to take the economy forwards.”
The awards are being headline sponsored by Saxo Bank. Albert Maasland, Saxo’s UK and US CEO, said: “Saxo Bank supports both individuals and institutions living and working in the City to achieve their trading and investment objectives in today’s market. We are delighted to partner with City A.M. in their awards, and recognise those individuals and institutions that offer innovation, ingenuity, success and prudent business practices.”
The awards will judge a broad range of sectors, including banking, law, professional services, fund management and entrepreneurialism, and will aim to single out the highest achievers as well as the most promising new kids on the block.
Readers can pitch in with their votes – at least they can until voting closes on 4 May. (See the website www.cityamawards.com for further details on this).
Then our distinguished panel of judges, comprised of some of the best known names in London’s financial community, will make the final decision ahead of a glittering ceremony on 21 September at one of the City’s best and most luxurious hotels, the Grange in St Paul’s.
Panel members include many who helped get the City A.M. awards off to such a successful start last year but they have been joined this time around by two stalwarts of the business community, Sir Martin Sorrell and Sir Roger Carr.
Sir Martin, as head of the leading advertising group WPP, has played a distinctive role in British business for three decades.
Sir Roger’s appointment to the Panel is also a real coup. He was a winner of the Dealmaker of the Year category last year and he has since become president of the CBI.
The Panel this year is also joined by Goldman Sachs’ Phil Raper, head of UK corporate broking at Goldman Sachs, and by Simon Mackenzie-Smith, UK investment bank chair of Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
Other panel members include Alison Carnwath, the chair of Land Securities and Slaughter & May’s Nigel Boardman.
Finsbury founder Roland Rudd has to be one of the City’s best connected individuals.
Truettt Tate is an executive director of Lloyds Banking and John Griffith-Jones is chairman of KPMG UK. Simon Borrows, Greenhill’s co chief executive completes the group, along with City A.M.’s editor Allister Heath and his deputy David Hellier.
