A world of fine watches
SHELLING out a few thousand quid – even a few hundred – on a watch is not an activity to be entered into lightly. After all, any piece of high-quality wristwear you sport will become your style signifier, so it’s worth spying out the market and seeing what’s out there, where the trends are and which brands are leading the fray.
One opportunity to do just that is Salon QP, an exhibition of market leaders in the world of haute horlogerie which takes place in Marylebone from 11 to 13 November. Organised by glossy watch magazine QP, it’s an event for both serious collectors and those thinking of dipping their toes into the heady world of high-end watches.
World-famous brands including Panerai, Jaeger le Coultre, Girard- Perregaux and A Lange & Sohne will be exhibiting their latest exclusive timepieces.
“A lot of things on display are either totally new or new to this country,” says organiser and QP editor James Gurney. “It’s a chance to see the range of what’s out there without experiencing the retail pressure of a Bond Street store – the idea is to come and discover.”
Among the main attractions will be Japanese company Seiko’s super-luxury line, under the banner Grand Seiko, which has never previously been sold in this country; a beautiful ship’s clock from British brand Bremont; and, most excitingly for true horology-philes, a new creation from perhaps the most important living watchmaker George Daniels and his Isle of Man-based heir-apparent Roger Smith. Salon QP takes place 11-13 Nov, at One Marylebone, NW1 4AQ. Tickets from £20 from www.salonqp.com
