Farah ends momentous year with Euro award
BRITISH long-distance runner Mo Farah has capped a sensational season by being named male European Athlete of the Year.
The 28-year-old starred at the World Championships in Daegu last month, claiming gold in the 5,000m just days after he was narrowly beaten by Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan in the 10,000m.
He was equally successful at the European Indoor Championships in Paris, claiming gold in the 3,000m, and finished ahead of a high-class field that assembled for the New York Half-Marthon back in March.
As well as those landmark victories, Londoner Farah also ran a European 10,000m record of 26 minutes 46.57 seconds to win at the Diamond League meeting in Oregon in June, and in July he set a new British record of 12:53.11 over 5,000m in Monaco.
Fellow Brit Jodie Williams was revealed as the winner of the female European Athletics Rising Star Award.
